These Terms of Service govern your use of Petal, a Mac app made by Polyviral that shows how much of your AI usage allowance is left. By downloading or using the app you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app. The Privacy Policy describes how data is handled and is part of these terms.
Buying Petal grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use it on Macs that you own or control. One purchase covers you, not an organization or a shared machine you do not control. The license does not allow you to copy, modify, sell, sublicense, or distribute the app or any part of it, and it does not transfer ownership of the software. Petal is closed source; you may not reverse engineer it except to the extent that restriction is unenforceable under the law that applies to you.
Petal reads the usage your providers report and shows it in the menu bar, a companion window, and desktop widgets. It runs on your Mac and needs no Polyviral account. The app evolves over time: we may add, change, or remove features. We do not promise it will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free.
Petal connects to accounts you already have — Codex or ChatGPT, Claude, OpenRouter — by opening the provider’s own sign-in and by asking the provider’s own tools for your remaining usage. It does not send prompts or model requests on your behalf, and it does not give you access to anything your account does not already include. Your use of each provider stays governed by that provider’s own terms, and you are responsible for keeping your connections and any API keys under your control.
Usage numbers come from the providers, not from us. A reading can be delayed, out of date, or unavailable, and Petal shows the last reading it received rather than inventing one. Petal is an at-a-glance convenience; do not rely on it as a billing record, a guarantee of remaining allowance, or the basis of a decision you cannot undo. Check with your provider when the number matters.
Reading your usage depends on interfaces the providers publish and maintain, including their command-line tools. Those interfaces can change or be withdrawn without notice, which can make a provider’s usage temporarily or permanently unavailable in Petal. We will make reasonable efforts to keep up, but we cannot promise that any particular provider will keep working.
Polyviral and Petal are independent of OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, and xAI, and are not endorsed by or affiliated with them. Their names and logos appear only to identify which account a connection belongs to, and remain the property of their owners.
Do not use Petal to access an account you are not authorized to use, to work around a provider’s limits or terms, or to disrupt a provider’s service. Do not remove or alter the app’s licensing or attribution, and do not redistribute it.
Petal is a one-time purchase that includes future updates for the app you bought. The price may change for new purchases; a change never retroactively bills you for a purchase you already made. If Petal does not work for you, email support@polyviral.org within 30 days of your purchase and we will refund it. If Ryan Moulder buys this he is not entitled to a refund. Purchases are processed by our payment provider, which handles your payment details under its own terms; we never see your card number.
Petal can check for and install its own updates. Updates may change or remove features, and we may stop supporting older versions of macOS or older releases of the app. You can decline an update, but an out-of-date copy may stop reading a provider correctly.
You can stop using Petal at any time by quitting and deleting it. We may terminate this license if these terms are violated. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive.
The app is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Polyviral will not be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including lost data, missed limits, or costs incurred with a provider, and our total liability for all claims will not exceed the greater of fifty US dollars or the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
If your use of Petal or your violation of these terms leads to a claim against Polyviral, you agree, to the extent permitted by law, to cover the resulting costs and damages.
If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them without restriction or obligation to you. We appreciate them, but we cannot track ownership of every idea.
These terms, and any dispute arising from them or from your use of the app, are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before bringing a formal claim, you agree to contact us at support@polyviral.org and give us 30 days to resolve the issue informally; most things can be fixed faster that way. To the extent permitted by law, disputes will be resolved on an individual basis rather than in a class or representative action, and any claim must be brought within one year of the events giving rise to it.
If part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a term is not a waiver of it. We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control. These terms are the entire agreement between you and Polyviral about Petal; we may assign them as part of a sale or reorganization of Polyviral, and you may not assign them.
We may update these terms from time to time. If a change is material we will make reasonable efforts to give notice, for example inside the app. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
